Parkhead Community School’s Amazing New Modular Pumptrack
09/06/2023Rolling into Fun: Our Newest Modular Pumptrack for a Thrilled Young Family
27/10/2023In June 2022 Liss Parish Council got in touch with our events team about renting one of our modular pumptracks for the Queens Jubilee. Liss Parish Council had a clear vision, they wanted to know how popular a pumptrack would be if they had one in their local park. The advantage of the Dirt Factory events pumptrack is that it’s portable, so tracks can be assembled for a given period of time without breaking the bank. This proved very useful for the project because Liss Parish Council were able to hire the track for just over a week and during that time they collected user feedback via online surveys, Facebook and in person questionnaires.
When it was time to collect the pumptrack we were delighted to hear that the portable pumptrack had been a huge hit over the entire rental period. Liss Parish Council were pleasantly surprised how popular the pumptrack was and were particularly impressed with how inclusive the temporary set up had been.
Cllr Keith Budden, Chair of Liss Parish Council said,
“The overwhelming popularity of the hired pump track demonstrated the community’s need for a track in Liss, and we are delighted to haven partnered up with pump track specialists Dirt Factory. The track will be a fantastic place for the whole community to exercise, learn new skills and socialise together.”
We were also told that as well as bikes, scooters and skateboards, a family of avid roller skaters regularly used the hired pumptrack. Roller skates are typically the least common type of roller equipment we see on pumptracks, so to hear that was amazing too.
Over 400 people completed the surveys and by the end of the public consultation period 90% of people were in favour of seeing a permanent pumptrack in the park. After further public consultation and planning meetings a modular pumptrack installation was decided upon instead of a dirt or tarmac pumptrack. One of the main reasons behind going modular dates back to previous efforts to install a skatepark in the same park, which undeservedly attracted some negative criticism. With this in mind, Liss Parish Council liked the idea that the modular pumptrack could in theory be moved, sold or even added to in the future if required. How the pumptrack flows when riding, its aesthetics and customisable options were also factors in the final decision making.
Sarah Smith, Clerk of Liss Parish Council said,
“The track was a big success – it was in use constantly and by people of all ages between 2 and 68. We received so much positive feedback, including how the users had been so good at taking turns and allowing different users the opportunity to ride the track. Not only did the track provide a great attraction for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, it proved an excellent real time consultation with local residents.”
“The track is due to open imminently and there is a real sense of excitement about the facility. We are so pleased to have been able to provide such an excellent facility for our young people. Dirt Factory worked alongside us all the way and were a pleasure to work with.”
One year on and after 15 days of hard work, the Dirt Factory Trail Services team installed a brand new V4 Modular Pumptrack, which is 67m long and feels absolutely amazing to ride. Make sure you check out some of the pictures below taken throughout the build.
There are an endless amount of modular pumptrack layouts available and there are three different models to choose from, including precast concrete modules which are also just as awesome.
