Malverns Classic 2018
18/06/2018Cycling Festival – Wallingford World Cup
09/07/2018Super Sunday, yes it was. The Dirt Factory pump track kept children very busy at this years Marvelous Mossley festival. The Dirt Factory team were on hand to deliver free bike skills, coaching sessions and bike repairs. This was the fourth of twelve sessions that took part through the Ride Mossley project.
The Dirt Factory team set up a unique pump track circuit which kept riders entertained and coming back for more. Young people aged between 5 and 16 turned up on their own bikes or borrowed a Dirt Factory hire bike and helmet. Even a few adults couldn’t resist a ride of the circuit.
The Event was a great opportunity to inform people about FREE summer cycling sessions aimed at young people aged 8 -16. First of all lots of flyers were handed out and 10 people signed-up for future sessions on the day. It didn´t seem long before the scouts trooped toward the huge canvas marquee they had assembled almost ready to take it down. 3pm had arrived fast. In four hours of glorious festival fun, 42 individuals rode the pump track and took part in coaching sessions. Furthermore, at least 50% of the kids rode the pump track all day, only stopping to grab some water or an ice-cream.
Lifelong interest
The aim of the bike skills sessions is to provide a gateway to developing an ingrained lifelong interest in a sport. The Dirt Factory pump track and air bag are excellent tools, being used to positively engage and educate people. The pump track is designed as such that anyone is able to use it. All users need is the basic ability to ride their bike, scooter, skateboard, roller skates or any other wheeled equipment.
Super Sunday
Above all it was certainly a Super Sunday. The England football team beat Panama and after that the Dirt Factory team enjoyed bringing the people of Mossley something a little different. We really hope to return next year.
