02/01/2023The Dirt Factory Trail Services team have recently completed a new design and build mountain bike trail for Lindley Educational Trust, which is a private education centre set within the Derbyshire hills. The complete trail will be used by school visitors from all over the UK who attend the education centre for outdoor learning, exercise, orienteering and team building
The space available was tight and had to take into consideration other activities such as an high ropes course, archery and a zip line. In the end our Trail Specialists came up with 350m of blue grade flow trail with a good mixture of berms, rollable jumps and optional rock garden features. The trail was also designed and built so that it can be ridden both ways which is quite unique, but given this was a private facility they had that option.
Despite the project budget being very limited the client really wanted a mountain bike trail built before the end of the year. Therefore we came up with a design and plan which would get at least three quarters of the build complete. The client was happy with this and work began early September before the bad weather started to set in.
In the end we managed to complete the full trail due to some good fortune from a local quarry who donated 140 tonnes of stone which freed up some of the budget. Also what helped was the better than expected weather conditions and the sheer determination from our build crew who were reluctant to hand over a new trail build unfinished, which is kind of sacrilege in the trail building world.
After lots of hard work, shaping and whackering, the end result turned from an overgrown jungle into a fun, flowy and progressive mountain bike trail, built sustainably to IMBA guidelines by professional Trail Specialists and mountain bikers.
