UK Ski Centre Invests in a Modular Pump Track
22/07/2026
This year parish councils across the UK have been working together with Dirt Factory to install their own modular pumptracks. Designed for all ages and skill levels the tracks are suitable for bikes, scooters, skateboards and balance bikes.
Colne Parish Council
Despite suffering a number of funding setbacks Colne Parish Council in Cambridgeshire were unrelenting in their mission to install a track for local children. Using online crowdfunding they were able to fundraise almost £16,000 from their own supporters before securing a further £15,000 funding from Sports England to install their own modular Pumptrack in the village.
The installation was straightforward and saved the Parish Council thousands of pounds on planning and design fees. The track is now open for public use and is already proving popular with locals of all ages, especially young families and children from neighbouring villages travelling to use the new track. A huge well done to Parish Council Clerk Karen, without whom it may never have been possible.
We agree wholeheartedly with the comments from a local MP who recognised the value of the project;
“I can recognise how important infrastructure like this is in encouraging physical activity among children and teenagers”
whilst the district councillor noted
“Facilities like this are a real asset to communities, promoting health and wellbeing”.
Will the council look to expand the track in the future? With the modular pumptrack layout they have chosen, that’s a distinct possibility – more modules can easily be added to create a longer track. These pumptracks can grow alongside their communities. Modular tracks can be reconfigured, extended or moved at a later date.
Burbage Parish Council
What started as an open space is now a brand new pumptrack installation for Burbage Parish Council. Since opening in early June, the track has been in constant use by residents of all ages and abilities, providing a fun, inclusive and healthy way to enjoy the outdoors.
Juliet Perry, Clerk to Burbage Parish Council said:
“The opportunity to hire a temporary track before committing to a permanent installation was instrumental in securing community support and giving the Council the confidence to invest in the project”
The track installation followed a successful community trial and public consultation, facilitated through our modular hire track and event staff, during which residents gave overwhelming support for a permanent fixture. Feedback received helped to shape the final layout, with the council resolving to install the largest track possible within its available budget.

The Parish Council was supported through the Parish & Community Initiative Fund, which
awarded a grant of £12,000 towards the project. This significant contribution, together with Section 106 developer funding, has enabled the council to deliver an exciting new recreational facility that will benefit the community for many years to come.
Juliet Perry, Clerk to Burbage Parish Council said:
‘We couldn’t be happier with our experience of working with Dirt Factory. Their team supported us every step of the way, from helping us trial a temporary pump track for community consultation to delivering a first-class permanent installation. The response from our residents has been overwhelming, and the track has been busy from the day it opened. We would highly recommend Dirt Factory to any council looking to provide a fun, inclusive and high-quality recreational facility. The opportunity to hire a temporary track before committing to a permanent installation was instrumental in securing community support and giving the Council the confidence to invest in the project’.
