Cycling World Championships 2023, Scotland

The UK (more specifically Scotland) is the place to be this summer if you love cycling. Why? Because for the first time ever all the UCI sanctioned cycling disciplines are having their respective World Championships all in one country, in wee bonny Scotland, which has never happened before.

Whether you’re a road cycling fan, mountain bike fanatic or into your BMX racing or tricks, all bases are covered. Check this useful table out which gives you all the what, where and when details starting August 2023.

The Dirt Factory Events team have a few bookings in the calendar up north already to help local organisations promote the World Championships across Scotland. The Air Bag has just come back from Fort William and our mobile Pumptrack will be visiting Dalbeattie on the 5th August, hopefully there will be a few more trips to promote and support these amazing events and athletes. 

For us, we can’t get enough of the Downhill racing, and would highly recommend tuning in for that event, or even better, make the trip to Fort William and watch it live, you will not be disappointed. In fact, the World Championships was last held at Fort William 15 years ago, and we were fortunate enough to make the trip an witness the great Sam Hill take the DH win, Sabrina Jonnier take the women’s DH win and young Ruaridh Cunningham mop up the juniors DH championship (we also thought the legendary Steve Peat was scottish at the time because we heard him chatting after his seat came off during his finals run – he’s a Yorkshirman).

The Freestyle BMX is also just as insane to watch with GB rider Kieran Riley really pushing the limits of what is possible on two wheels. But, we will be praying to the MTB gods that the likes of Danny Hart, Jordan Williams, Laurie Greenland and Rachel Atherton (if competing) keep safe and bring the downhill world championship back to Great Britain this year. It’s been a french domination of late.
