Part One: Pump Track on the Road
17/08/2022Modular Pumptrack Installed at LEGO House
29/09/2022Some say it’s the biggest party of the year, some say it’s ‘the’ mountain bike festival of the year. All we can say is, don’t miss the Malverns Classic 2023 because you’re guaranteed to have an awesome time. Okay, okay, it’s difficult for us to guarantee that, but if you carry on reading it will hopefully explain why you shouldn’t think twice about visiting next year’s event.
Malverns Classic to us seems to be a MTB festival that is more about grinning than winning. Of course you get some racers looking for the top step and that’s fine, but the vibe we always take away from the Malverns is more about having fun on your bike, riding with friends and getting a bit loose.
The whole event is jam packed with fun activities, racing and is very family friendly too. There are plenty of cycling activities for balance bike riders, beginner mountain bikers as well as catering for the enthusiasts. Plus there is live music, big screen showings, beer, street food, free fun fair, live racing, over 100 trade stalls, professional competitions, camping and of course the Dirt Factory air bag and portable pump track.
The Malverns hills are not massive, so don’t expect long descents, but do prepare for a whole mixture of different events, for example, downhill, dual slalom, enduro, lake race, cross country and plenty more. The Dirt Factory Events team were tasked with installing the modular pump track and running the Air Bag jump, which was open for three full days and was jumped on more than 2000 times. The age range jumping the big air bag never fails to amaze us and it’s fantastic to see the first time jumpers fist pumping the air as much as it is to see a 360 bar-spin by a pro rider.
So if you’re in the process of exploring off-road cycling, or if you think you’re one of those people who knows nothing about mountain bikes, it honestly doesn’t matter. The Malverns Classic is a festival for everyone to enjoy. If you need more convincing, one of the next things you should do is head straight to the Malverns Classic website and see for yourself what’s on offer…and then book your ticket.
